Doha RFC Vets Team

The Doha RFC Vets (or Doha Dogs) are the team that represents the slightly more mature section of the rugby club, made up of a number of thinking women’s Jonny Wilkinsons and Sebastien Chabals. To qualify for the vets you must be at least 35 years old, male (proof may be required), possess a sense of humour, and have the capacity to enjoy / endure a number of post-match rituals. It helps if you have played rugby before, but many have proven over the years that this is not a prerequisite!
As a vet you’ll play a mixture of 15’s and 10’s. The 15 aside format is generally used for ‘friendly’ fixtures, whilst 10’s is the preferred team structure for the tournaments. Fixtures are arranged both home and away and include most of the Gulf States. Whilst the ethos of vets rugby is based on having a good time this doesn’t mean that there isn’t a more serious and competitive element. Indeed Doha have proven over the last few years that they are a force to be reckoned with, both in The Middle East and on tours further afield. Recent tournament wins include Bahrain Midnight 10’s, Sharjah, and our own Doha 10’s. This year the aim is to finally win the Gulf Vets section of the Dubai 7’s.
Apparently you’re a long time retired, so if you’re at least 35 and fancy extending  your playing career, please come down to the club - you’ll be made very welcome…
